Injury Updates

Greg Jennings- All of Packer Nation let out a sigh of relief when the news broke that Greg Jennings' knee injury is not severe. He is expected to be out 2-3 weeks. I personally see no reason why he should play before the Packers' 1st round playoff game (5 weeks).

Brandon Saine- Saine suffered a concussion against the Raiders and is expected to be ready to play on Sunday at Kansas City.

Ryan Pickett- Pickett is in the same boat as Saine.

Josh Sitton- Sitton is expected to return to practice this week after missing 2.5 games with a knee injury. His status is still in question for Sunday.

Chad Clifton- There is a chance that Clifton could return to practice this week. But I wouldn't get my hopes up. I expect to see Marshall Newhouse and Derek Sherrod split reps again against the Chiefs.

That's all I got. Go Pack!

Jay Cutler...Injured again...

By all counts, the Bears game was looking like a tough one on the schedule. It had the potential to ruin my Christmas with a loss or even a close game. But on Sunday afternoon Jay Cutler threw an Interception and attempted to make a tackle to stop a touchdown. During the process he broke the thumb on his right (throwing) hand. He is expected to have surgery and miss the rest of the regular season. It is possible that he could return for the playoffs, should the bears make it that far. I never like to see anyone get hurt, but when it's Cutler I don't feel too badly about it.

Injuries: James Starks

Starks was injured with just over 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The official diagnosis is a knee sprain. His status is unknown. Hopefully we will have more information later today.

I would assume he will not be ready to play on Thursday against the Lions.

Injury Update: Alex Green

Rookie RB Alex Green sustained a season-ending knee injury on the opening kickoff against the Vikings. Green did not contribute much to the offense, but has been improving weekly in special teams play. I do not forsee this as being a huge hit to the team so long as the health of Ryan Grant and James Starks remains intact. The Packers are weighing all options to replace Green on the roster. My best guess is that they would re-sign Dmitri Nance who was cut at the end of the preseason.

Injury Update: Chad Clifton

Mike McCarthy stated that starting Left Tackle Chad Clifton will miss "a number of weeks" with a "significant hamstring injury." This is not good news for the Packers, and it will not surprise me if this is the end of Clifton's career in Green Bay.

The good news is that Marshall Newhouse held up well in his place, and will be the likely starter against the St. Louis Rams this week.

There is a chance that Bryan Bulaga could return against the Rams as well and would likely return at Right Tackle. If Bulaga is unable to go, then rookie 1st round draft pick Derek Sherrod will get the nod at RT.

Both young tackles played well against Atlanta, and if Newhouse continues to improve and protect Rodgers in the coming weeks Clifton will be out of a job by the time he is able to return.

As always, stay tuned for more updates. GO PACK!

Update: Collins Injury

Nick Collins underwent neck surgery on Thursday, September 29th. By all accounts, the surgery went well. According to his doctor, we will not know the status of his future until April 2012. Wishing Nick the best and hoping he can return to football next season.

He still has not been placed on IR. Unsure why because he will definitely not return to the field this season.

Update: Bulaga Injury

Coach Mike McCarthy explained that Starting Right Tackle Bryan Bulaga sustained a knee bruise and sprain in Sunday's win over the Bears. The Packers may have "Dodged a bullet" here because on film the injury certainly looked like it could have been season ending. The full extent of the injury is not known as the team doctors will continue to do tests this week.

Although the Packers have not made an official statement on Bulaga's status, I would be surprised if he was able to go against the Broncos this Sunday. If he is not ready, then Marshall Newhouse - who played well against the Bears - will likely get the start. It is likely that we will see 1st round pick Derek Sherrod suit up for the first time in Green and Gold as well. But we hope he doesn't have to get into the game beacuse of injury. Go Pack!

Injuries

Just a quick update on this week's injuries. Tramon Williams (shoulder) returned to practice yesterday and apparently looked good. It is likely that he will play this Sunday vs the Bears. Huge!

Charles Woodson (foot) and Clay Matthews (quad) were held out of practice yesterday, we are assuming it is only precautionary as neither seems to have a significant enough injury to keep them from playing the division rival on Sunday.

On a side note - Mike and Mike in the Morning will be broadcast live from Chicago tomorrow (Friday, Sept 23) at the House of Blues. Look for one of the contributors to this blog on TV (ESPN2).

Nick Collins Out for the Season

We've been here before...It's the same story, just a different year and different players. Mike Neal, Tramon Williams, and Nick Collins are all injured. Hopefully Williams will be back for the Bears game. Hopefully Neal can be back before the end of the season. But our hope for Collins is that he can have a successful recovery and be back to pro bowl form in 2012. As of now, Collins is consulting doctors for surgical and rehabilitative options. He is in our thoughts and prayers. Charlie Peprah will start in his place in week 3 and going forward. I hope this is the last post we have to make about injuries this season. Go Pack!

Not Again! Jones to IR

Here we go again! This morning the Green Bay Packers placed OLB Brad Jones on Injured Rererve due to surgery needed on his shoulder.

Jones will be replaced by Frank Zombo, and it now becomes clear why the Packers signed 3 linebackers just this week. The hits just keep on coming. To fill the open spot, the packers claimed NT Howard Green from the Jets. This addition will give the Pack a full roster, meaning that we wont be seeing Harris or Bigby in the lineup just yet.

In other news, former Packer kick returner Will Blackmon was signed by the New York Giants. Blackmon injured his knee early last season and was released in the final cut for the Pack this preseason.

Injuries, Injuries, and MORE INJURIES!!!

The Pack lost in another disappointing showing. I didn't get to actually watch the game (and I'm thankful for it). Here is a list of starters (and key backups) who are injured:

Ryan Grant**
Nick Barnett**
Brandon Chillar~
JerMichael Finley~
Morgan Burnett**
Donald Lee~
Mark Tauscher
Ryan Pickett~
Sam Shields~
Aaron Rodgers~
Clay Matthews~

** Out for Season
~ Severity of Injury unknown

It's starting to get ridiculous!! With 11 key players injured, how can this team remain competitive? Hopefully all of the squiggly lined players can return in a short amount of time and win some games to make a playoff run. But I have my doubts that it will happen...nevertheless - GO PACK!
